Let's see if this sentence sounds at all familiar to you, “I’ll start working out next week, I’ll be much less busy then.” Or this one, “I’ll start working out next month, my kids will be done with sports finally.” Or this all too familiar one, “I’ll start working out in January because it's the perfect New Year's resolution and I am just so busy with all the holidays over the next 3 months!”

We’re all guilty of putting things off until a later date when we think we’ll be less busy or be able to more fully commit to something.

However here is the harsh reality that you all need to hear, and understand. When we say we’re too busy for something, what we’re really saying is that this thing is simply not important enough to us at this point in time to take up any time of our day. Indeed there are limited hours in a day, and sometimes it seems hard to fit everything in. We often spread ourselves too thin, between work/children/family/friends/hobbies/etc. But if one thing is certain, we will ALWAYS make it a point to make time for what is important to us!

If your health is important to you, you NEED to exercise… in some way shape or form. You need to find something that is enjoyable for you, to ensure that you will stick with it. If you’re a serial “Planet Fitness New Years gym-goer” but find that you stop within 1-2 months of starting, you simply don’t enjoy it enough to keep working there. Once you don’t enjoy something enough, you start finding (and using) excuses as to why you are no longer able to keep up with your ever-important health and fitness routine, and being "too busy" is always the #1 excuse.

I want to keep this blog article short and to the point, because there are really only 2 very simple concepts to take away after reading it!

  1. Nobody (and I do mean nobody) is too busy to exercise 3-4 days per week for 45-60min, and you WILL find the time if it is important enough to you.

  2. If you don’t consider your exercise to be ENJOYABLE, you will not continue with it.

The next time someone says they are too busy to exercise, or they are waiting for the perfect time to start, what they are really saying is, “I do not want to make the time for exercise” and/or, “I do not find it enjoyable enough to commit to.” An absolutely essential part of this is that you DO find something that you consider enjoyable, because your health should be one of your absolute top priorities in life! Unless you don’t want to live a longer, healthier, happier, more fulfilled life… and I just don’t think that applies to any of you reading this article right now!

There actually is one PERFECT time to start working out… and that is right now. Don’t put off your own health for the sake of others any longer! You need to make time for YOU first and foremost. If you can’t commit to anything now (regardless of how many excuses you can come up with) chances are you won’t be able to commit to anything later either when you think it’ll be the “perfect” time to start working out.

It's time to set the excuses aside, and finally do something for YOU. You spend countless hours doing things that you don’t enjoy for other people (mainly work), so why not give back to yourself, and set aside just an hour a day for 3 days per week. You deserve it, and your body and mind will THANK you in so many wonderful ways.
